Welcome to Saving Sophia Garden, a blog dedicated to preserving the garden space located at 1231 W. Loyola Ave just west of the Loyola EL stop in Rogers Park. This community green space is on property owned by Loyola University and is scheduled to be taken over on November 1, 2008 as part of the university's development plans. Originally, the space was to be leased to a builder for the construction of condos, but this builder has backed out. As of now, the garden will still be closed and demolished.
Rogers Park does not need another vacant lot or empty condo building. As a community, we are asking Loyola to leave the garden for students, families and community members to enjoy. Join us in asking Loyola to be a considerate neighbor and save our cherished garden. In the coming days, community members will use this blog as a forum for discussion and a way to distribute information about what others can do to help. Please check back regularly.
